Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 4, 2026

What’s new in this version

  • Advertising measurement with Meta. If you allow tracking, Sweatistics uses Meta’s software development kit (SDK) to measure which of our ads on Meta platforms (such as Facebook and Instagram) lead people to install and open the app. The SDK then sends app install and app open events, device and app information, your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) and your IP address, and possibly subscription purchase events and hashed contact details (such as an email address or name), to Meta. It never sends your health, fitness, nutrition or Run data.
  • Your tracking choice. If you are signed in and 18 or older, iOS may ask whether Sweatistics can track you. Unless you tap “Allow”, the Meta SDK is not turned on and nothing is sent to Meta. Sweatistics works the same whichever you choose, and you can change it any time in iOS Settings.
  • New sections explain what Meta receives, how to opt out, and your US state privacy choices. We also updated the statements that said Sweatistics does not use advertising or attribution SDKs.

This Privacy Policy explains how Sweatistics LLC (“Sweatistics”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares and protects information when you use the Sweatistics app, website and related services.

Information you provide

You may provide information such as your email address, name, profile details (such as age, sex, height, weight and goals), nutrition entries, workout records, cardio activity, weight entries, manually logged steps, notes, feedback and other information you choose to save in Sweatistics.

Information collected automatically

We receive limited technical information needed to operate, secure and improve Sweatistics, such as device type, operating system and app version, subscription status, in-app usage events and diagnostic events (for example, when an error screen is shown). This information is stored by us (first party) and linked to your account. Sweatistics also uses Meta’s SDK to measure our advertising, as described in Advertising measurement (Meta) and tracking. Sweatistics does not show ads in the app.

Advertising measurement (Meta) and tracking

Sweatistics advertises on Meta platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. To learn which of our ads lead people to install and use the app, the Sweatistics iPhone app includes the Meta SDK, provided by Meta Platforms, Inc.

When the Meta SDK runs. The Meta SDK is turned on only when all of these are true: you are signed in, you have accepted our current Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy, you have told us you are 18 or older, and you tapped Allow on the iOS tracking prompt. Otherwise, including when you use Sweatistics without signing in, the Meta SDK is not started and sends nothing to Meta.

What Meta receives. When the Meta SDK is on, it automatically sends Meta events when the app is installed and opened (including how long the app is open). Each event includes device and app information (such as device model, iOS version, app version, language, time zone, mobile carrier and screen size), an identifier the SDK creates for the app on your device, your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA), and your IP address, which Meta may use to estimate your general location. Depending on Meta’s settings, it may also send in-app subscription purchase events (such as the product, price and currency) and a hashed (scrambled) form of contact details you type into the app, such as an email address or name, which Meta uses to match events to Meta accounts. We do not send Meta your Sweatistics account ID, health, fitness, nutrition, weight or Run data, photos, voice recordings or Coach messages. We do not use Facebook Login or Meta sharing features.

How it is used. We use reports from Meta to measure how well our ads on Meta platforms work. Meta also uses this information under its own terms and privacy policy, for example to measure and deliver ads, improve and personalize the ads and other content it shows people, and keep its services secure. Meta may keep this information for up to two years. Learn more in Meta’s Privacy Policy: https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy/

App Tracking Transparency. Sweatistics may ask, using Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt, whether we can track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites. We ask only if you are signed in, are 18 or older and have accepted these terms. If you tap Allow, we turn on the Meta SDK as described above. If you tap Ask App Not to Track, or if “Allow Apps to Request to Track” is turned off on your device, we do not turn on the Meta SDK. No Sweatistics feature, content or price depends on your choice.

How to opt out.

  • Tracking: iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. Turn off Sweatistics, or turn off “Allow Apps to Request to Track” for all apps. We stop using the Meta SDK the next time Sweatistics opens.
  • Advertising identifier: if tracking is not allowed, iOS gives apps only a blank advertising identifier.
  • Meta’s ad personalization: if you have a Meta account, you can control whether Meta uses activity shared by apps such as Sweatistics to show you ads, in Meta’s Accounts Center (“Activity from other businesses”). See https://www.facebook.com/help/1455040619735222
  • Everything: you can stop all data collection by the Meta SDK by turning off tracking for Sweatistics as described above, or by deleting the app. Deleting your Sweatistics account does not delete data Meta already holds. You can ask Meta about it through Meta’s Privacy Policy.
  • We do not use the Meta SDK for people who tell us during setup that they are under 18.

US state privacy choices

Some US state privacy laws give residents rights over “sale”, “sharing” or “targeted advertising”. We do not sell your personal information. Sweatistics shares information with Meta for advertising measurement only if you allow tracking, and you can withdraw that permission at any time in iOS Settings as described in Advertising measurement (Meta) and tracking. You can also contact us at business@sweatistics.com to make a privacy request, including a request to opt out. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

Health and fitness information

Sweatistics is designed to help you track fitness and nutrition information. Information you choose to enter may relate to health or fitness. Sweatistics does not sell this information, does not use it for advertising, and does not send it to Meta or any other advertising partner.

Apple Health, motion and step count

On supported Apple devices, Sweatistics may ask for permission to read your step count from Apple Health (HealthKit) and to access Motion & Fitness step data from your iPhone. These values are used on your device to display your daily steps and progress toward your step goal, including in Sweatistics Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets. Step totals may include steps recorded by your iPhone, Apple Watch or other sources connected to Apple Health.

Sweatistics requests read-only access to step count and does not write any data to Apple Health. Apple Health data is not uploaded to our servers, not stored in iCloud, not sent to our AI provider, not used for advertising or marketing, and not sold to advertisers or data brokers. You can change these permissions at any time in iOS Settings or the Health app.

Location, GPS and Live Activities

GPS during a Run

When you start a Run, Sweatistics asks for precise location access “While Using the App”. While a Run you started is recording, Sweatistics uses precise location to measure distance and elevation, including while your phone is locked or you are using another app. iOS shows a location indicator while this happens. Location tracking stops when you pause, finish or discard the Run, or when you sign out. Sweatistics does not request “Always” location access and does not use your location when no Run is recording.

Route points (GPS coordinates) are kept only in your device’s memory while the Run is recording and are discarded when it ends. They are not saved to your device’s storage, synced to our servers, shared publicly, included in Run share images or videos, or sent to our AI provider. Only the workout figures you save (such as duration, distance, pace and elevation) are stored with your account, like your other fitness records.

Live Activities

On supported iPhones, an active Run can appear as a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. It shows only whether the Run is running or paused, elapsed time, distance and your unit and language settings. It does not include route coordinates, your name or account details, and it is updated from your device (not sent from our servers). Anyone who can see your Lock Screen may see this information. You can turn off Live Activities for Sweatistics in iOS Settings.

You can deny location access and enter distance manually. Distance and elevation are estimates and may vary with device, signal and conditions. Continuous GPS use increases battery consumption.

Camera, barcode scanning and photos

Barcode scanning

If you scan a food barcode, the camera image is processed on your device to read the barcode number. The camera image is not saved or uploaded. The barcode number (not the image) is sent from your device to the Open Food Facts database to look up the product’s nutrition information.

Photos

Sweatistics handles photos differently depending on how you use them:

  • Profile photo. If you choose a profile photo, Sweatistics uploads that image to private cloud storage linked to your account so it can sync across your devices.
  • Personal background. If you choose a personal background image, Sweatistics uploads that image to private cloud storage linked to your account (and stores related preferences) so it can sync across your devices.
  • Activity-attachment photos. Optional photos you attach to a cardio session remain on your device and are not included in cloud sync.
  • Cardio Photo Log (Premium / optional). If you use Cardio Photo Log, the photo you select is sent to our AI provider (currently OpenAI) so Sweatistics can suggest activity details (for example machine type, duration or calories). Sweatistics does not keep that photo on our servers after the request is processed unless you separately attach it as an activity photo (which remains on your device as described above). Review all AI suggestions before saving.
  • Scan Food (Premium / optional). If you use Scan Food, the plate or menu photo you choose is sent to our AI provider (currently OpenAI) so Sweatistics can suggest nutrition fields (for example food name, serving, calories and macros) for Add Food. Sweatistics processes the photo in memory for that request and does not keep it on our servers. Suggested values are estimates and may be wrong. Nothing is saved to your nutrition log until you review and confirm it.
  • Run share images and videos. If you choose to share a Run, the share image or video is created on your device from the workout figures shown and an optional photo or video you pick (videos up to 30 seconds, with their original audio). Sweatistics does not upload the photo or video you pick. You decide where to send the finished image or video using the iOS share sheet. It does not include route coordinates.

You can remove cloud profile and background photos through the app controls that manage those features, or by permanently deleting your account (see Data retention and deletion).

AI-assisted features

Optional AI features send limited data to our AI provider (currently OpenAI) only when you use them. Before first use, the app explains what will be sent and asks for your permission.

  • Voice logging. If you choose voice logging (nutrition, workout or cardio), the audio or text you submit is transcribed and processed so Sweatistics can prepare the entry you asked for. For some packaged foods, the food name (not your audio or account details) may be used for a web lookup of nutrition facts.
  • Coach. If you use Coach, your questions and messages (typed or transcribed from voice) and the relevant context you choose to share (such as profile, goals, food, workouts, weight, cardio and manually logged steps) are processed to generate a response or prepare an action you confirm. Coach does not receive Apple Health data. Coach is for fitness and nutrition tracking support only. It is not medical advice and does not diagnose or treat conditions.
  • Cardio Photo Log. The photo you choose is analysed to suggest activity details. See Camera, barcode scanning and photos.
  • Scan Food. The plate or menu photo you choose is analysed to suggest nutrition fields for Add Food. See Camera, barcode scanning and photos.

Provider retention. Sweatistics does not keep Cardio Photo Log or Scan Food photos, or voice recordings, after processing. OpenAI states that data sent through its API may be retained for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring and is then deleted, unless longer retention is required by law. OpenAI also states that it does not use data sent through its API to train its models unless the customer opts in. Sweatistics has not opted in to share API data with OpenAI.

These features are not used for advertising. AI output may be incomplete or inaccurate. You should review suggested entries, changes or information before saving or relying on them. Sweatistics requires your confirmation before certain AI-assisted entries are saved.

How information is used

  • Provide and maintain Sweatistics features.
  • Save, sync and display your records, including optional profile and personal background photos you choose to upload.
  • Measure distance and elevation during a Run you start, and show its progress in a Live Activity.
  • Display health and fitness information you authorize, such as Apple Health and Motion & Fitness step count.
  • Look up food and barcode nutrition information.
  • Process optional AI requests you initiate (voice logging, Coach, Cardio Photo Log and Scan Food) through our AI provider.
  • Provide account authentication and subscription access.
  • Provide account data export when you use the in-app Export feature.
  • Improve reliability, performance and user experience.
  • Measure the effectiveness of our ads on Meta platforms (see Advertising measurement (Meta) and tracking).
  • Respond to support requests and protect against misuse.

Service providers

Sweatistics uses service providers (processors) to operate the service. They process information only as needed for the features you use:

  • Supabase — account authentication; cloud sync of your fitness and nutrition records; private storage of profile and personal background photos; first-party usage and diagnostic events
  • Vercel — hosting for the Sweatistics server functions that relay optional AI requests (photos, audio and Coach messages) and food search
  • OpenAI — optional AI features: voice transcription and logging, Coach questions and context, Cardio Photo Log and Scan Food image analysis
  • RevenueCat — subscription status, purchase verification and purchase support with Apple (it keeps a purchase record linked to your account ID)
  • Resend — delivery of feedback and support emails
  • Expo — delivery of app updates (receives technical information such as platform and app version when the app checks for updates)

We require our service providers to protect personal information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy and with protections at least equal to those described here. Third-party practices are also governed by each provider’s own terms and privacy policy. Meta is not one of these service providers. It receives the limited information described in Advertising measurement (Meta) and tracking and uses it under its own terms. Apart from that, we do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising.

Food data sources and attribution

Food search text you enter is sent through our servers to USDA FoodData Central to find matching foods. Barcode numbers are looked up in Open Food Facts directly from your device (see Barcode scanning). USDA FoodData Central data are provided under CC0/public-domain terms. The Open Food Facts database is available under the Open Database License (ODbL), with individual database contents under the Database Contents License (DbCL). Sweatistics uses Open Food Facts text/database metadata and does not display Open Food Facts product images. To improve food matching, Sweatistics may keep normalized food names from voice logs in a shared lookup table that is not linked to your account.

Data retention and deletion

Information is retained while your account is active or as reasonably necessary to operate the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes and protect the service.

Account deletion

You can permanently delete your account and synced data in the app (sign in → Account or Settings → Delete account). Account deletion is intended to remove your synced fitness and nutrition records, usage and diagnostic events, authentication, and cloud-stored profile and personal background photos. Uninstalling the app alone does not delete cloud data. Device-local activity-attachment photos remain on the device until you remove them or uninstall.

Our subscription provider may keep a record of past purchases as required for billing, tax and legal purposes. Support emails you send us may be kept in our email records. Copies held by our AI provider are handled as described in AI-assisted features. Information the Meta SDK has already sent to Meta is held by Meta under its own policies (Meta’s terms allow it to keep this data for up to two years) and is not deleted when you delete your Sweatistics account.

In-app path: Sign in → Account → Delete account. See also the account-deletion instructions.

Apple subscriptions are managed separately in your App Store account settings and are not cancelled by deleting your Sweatistics account.

Data export

You can download a copy of your Sweatistics account data in the app: sign in → Account → Export. Deleting your account is separate and permanent — export does not delete your account.

Children

Sweatistics is not directed to children under 13, and you must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to our Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy for you. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. We do not knowingly send information about children under 13 to Meta. We do not use the Meta SDK for people who tell us they are under 18.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information. No electronic system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Sweatistics evolves. The current version will be posted on this page with an updated date. When we make material changes, we will ask you to review and accept the updated policy in the app.
